You've never heard of Nasson College.
No, you haven't. Be honest.
I know you've never heard of it because, quite frankly, I had never heard of it and I went to college just a few miles away from it.
Nasson's gone now. Out of business. It's a shame when ANY college goes under, but it somehow seems a little sadder when the casualty is a small independent college in a small town in southern Maine. And that's what Nasson was.
Now, I didn't go to Nasson. I went to school just across the Piscataqua River at UNH, but it seems a fitting memorial that Nasson gets a mention on this site.
And here's my story: My friend Matt and I started off Friday night with some serious candlepin bowling and drinking at Pop's Bowl-n-Beer in Newmarket, NH. From there we went to a party at Acacia House in Durham. Many kegs. And they had something called the Bong of Death and the Extender of Doom.
From there we went to another party at an apartment on Mill Road.
And that's about all I remember.
Next thing I know it's morning. I roll over and there's Matt asleep beside me.
The two of us are in the back of a pickup truck. Parked in a parking lot.
We have no idea where we are or how we got there. So we climb out of the truck and start asking around. It turns out we're in Maine. At Nasson College. We hitch-hiked back home.
To this day neither one of us has any idea how we got there.

I did manage to get an education there ,back in the 80's. One of the best times in my life. Dr. Young's history class could not be matched. For those who were there lets not forget 10 for 2 at 8, Winter weekend, D-day, the road rally, Mousum valley blue grass festival and all the rest. Cheers to Nasson all the great people !
I also tried to get an education there in the mid 70's but ended up at "The Hill" or trashed at a party at Upper campus or scrounging in my pockets for a buck for a few "blow-dogs" from Stop n' Blow next to campus. Life was good living in the "Ozone",4th floor of Allen Hall. Tough to get any school work done but had some mean games of hall hockey and hall Frisbee.
By the way...in the late 70's Nasson was ranked #18 in the country in Playboy's best partying schools. Our Mom's were so proud of us back then...(I am reading it for the articles Mom!)
"Camp Nasson in the Pines"...to those that remember, nuff said
I was there in 1970 and the stories you may be hearing are not only true but are only the tip of the iceberg. If you think the Movie Animal House was made in Oregon....The scene and the story started at Nasson College.....I was the guy on the Harley in the Dorm!
The Drunk At Nasson Story was true. I remember it well. We all stumbled out inthe wearly Am hours to see the two UNH guys in the abck of John,s PU.
Many of us also woke up in strange places in Durham, during my 4 years at Nasson

Nasson did really exist and the memories are vivid. When did this vigil to Sprinvale occur?
Nasson College did exist and still does due to the generous efforts of the very active Alumni Association!
Check out the Alumni Association's web site as well as Nasson1969.com to see members of the Class of 1969!

Here's a comment we recieved in May: "How come we can't comment on other people's stories! :( Yes, yes, it's true - Nasson College did really exist a long, long time ago... I know, I went there during the last year (complete with candelight vigils held for the passing) and answered the switchboard during Elsie's lunch! (It really was a LONG time ago!) Love your site!"
