Don't Sleep in Psych

My first day of Psychology 150 I noticed that my professor carried a tennis ball in with him and very subtly and nonchalantly placed it on his podium. He repeated this routine every day throughout the semester. It was very peculiar but no one ever questioned it.
One day, a student on the second row had fallen asleep at his desk. A calm prof simply grabbed his mysterious tennis ball, wound up and threw a Pedro Martinez-esque fastball directly at the dude’s head.
BEAN!
Needless to say; dude woke up!
We had a good laugh and thought we had figured out this eccentric teacher.
Until the next day...when he arrived with a BASEBALL and simply sat it upon his podium.
Not a soul slept that semester!
