Finding Love in Church

This one should beef up your all-too-short "romance" section
Ok, just a warning before you read, this story has no alcohol, no puking, and no detailed description of sexual acts. I guess it is really meant to go into the all-too-short "romance" section on the site.

I dated a guy in high school. He was a dork of the highest order, but I was a freak, so--best I could do. He worked a term at Hastings here in Tyler. Apparently he worked with a guy named Dudley while he was there. When I broke up with him my senior year (a year after he graduated) I made a vow to be single and party hard my senior year. Ok, so here is my senior year as far as my love life went: Got turned down by a guy I really liked, my crush of three years STILL didn't fall madly in love with me, and I got stood up for prom.

If I had partied any harder, I would have died. Then a day or so before Thanksgiving of 2001, I got an email from my ex. It gave me the screen name of the guy he worked with at Hastings, who was apparently also single, and having a bad year. I waited till Thanksgiving day to IM the guy. We talked every night, and on Saturday night I invited him to come to my church the next morning and meet me. Well, he got lost. He went to a black church and sat through their entire Sunday School program. Fortunately for both of us, he tried to find the church one more time, and succeeded in time to attend our service.

A lady in the church brought him back to where I teach Children's Church, and I almost fell out of my chair. All I can remember thinking is "Damn, I hope that's for me." (as you might have noticed, I am not your typical Sunday School teacher.) I wanted to kiss him right then and there, but knowing it would be wholly inappropriate, I settled for hugging him hello.

My class embarrassed me by making me do a Grinch impression in front of him. After church we went to my house and during lunch, he started playing footsie with me. I was a little startled at first, but I totally got into it. Then we watched Shrek on my couch. Before the movie was over, I was laying with my head in his lap. Needless to say I was happy.

Several hours later we were officially a couple. We waited till Feburary to have sex, and it was well worth it. This December we got engaged, at my best friend's apartment. It was an extremely sweet proposal. We vowed to write our story together this Valentine's day, but we were distracted by...more pressing matters let's say. So me writing this is a belated present to him, I can't wait till he reads it and recognizes it as our story.

As an interesting twist, my ex is now happily dating one of his exes. I guess it just goes to show that sometimes a wrong turn is simply a short-cut to where you are really supposed to be.
