I had the most awesome roommate my freshman year, we got along so well that we are, til this day, best friends.
However, sophomore year is when the roommate trouble started. My freshman year roomie, Jess, decided that she wanted to live off campus, but I decided to live on campus in the apartments with some of my other friends. It was a 5 girl, 2 bedroom apartment. Really bad!
We all got along great during the first 2 weeks of the quarter, we did everything together and had an all around good time! Then the cracks started to show. I will admit, I'm sure that I've done things to irritate my roomies once in awhile, living with 4 other girls is not exactly a party all the time, but one roommate in particular, Leah, was a pain in the ass!
We shared a room along with another girl, Beth. Leah was the biggest control freak, judgmental, lazy, micro manager. Leah was a light sleeper so we all had to be extra quiet whenever she decided to sleep. It wouldn't have been a big deal, except that she slept ALL the time! Whenever she wasn't in class or talking behind someone's back (which was pretty much when she was awake), then she was in her bed, sleeping or laying around. I was so annoyed with the fact that I had to tip toe around our apartment pretty much all times of the day!
And if we were too loud for her, she would not only act like a complete bitch the next day, but she would let everyone know what we did and make us out to be the bad guy. Leah also watched way too much TV. She would watch the same movie over and over again whenever she felt the need to "relax" which was all the time! Whenever I wanted to watch TV, she would guilt trip me into watching something that "everyone wants to watch" aka what Leah wanted to watch. I contributed her annoying attitude to the fact that she was an only child and was pretty much used to getting her way on everything!
Beth was the girl that we shared a room with in the apartment. There were 3 of us sharing a room so there were bound to be times where we would clash, but it wasn't a big deal most of the time. Beth was an alpha female so she was incredibly assertive and it was something I liked about her and something that most of us had to get used to. Leah hated Beth. She talked about her behind her back so much that I actually felt so bad for Beth because she seemed so vulnerable in my eyes. Leah would get into Beth's business, telling everyone that Beth wasn't good enough for her boyfriend, that she was a bitch, that she was annoying. However, when Beth was around, Leah would act like her best friend and listen to everything that she had to say.
One day, I got so fed up with Leah and her bitchy antics that I told Beth everything that Leah was saying about her. Beth was understandably hurt but she kept her distance from Leah from then on.
One other problem that Leah had was the fact that she didn't clean up after herself properly when it was "that time of the month". She would drip on the toilet seat and not even check to clean it! I know it's gross but it is certainly true and I can count on both hands the number of times it occurred. Beth eventually confronted Leah about her hygiene problem and Leah, instead of apologizing, got defensive and angry. Someone had to tell her though, as awkward as it was.
Leah was jealous of other girls around them and called them names like whores, sluts, stupid, retarded, and so many others that I thought were just plain rude! She called them to my face a few times but I decided to pick my battles. I could say so much about her but I really would be lowering myself to her level. She had a problem with me partying. I do admit that I did party during my sophomore year, but I also did get straight A's all throughout. She wasn't very outgoing or very attractive for that matter so she decided to talk about me behind my back, telling everyone how 'annoying' it was to have a roommate that partied! I was pretty upset about it and I did give her attitude for talking shit about me for no reason other than for the sake of doing it.
I was so ready to leave that apartment by the end of the year because I felt that I had lost my sense of self as well as an interest in things that made me happy. I was so tired of Leah breathing down mine, and everyone's back, getting on people's cases, judging them, acting lazy, and generally being rude, that I chose to live in a single room the next year. I stayed friends with everyone else but kept my distance from her. Everyone agreed that she was a complete drag to live with and decided not to live with her again. She was hurt that nobody had asked her to live with them but we couldn't care less!
Last I heard, she had a steady job and lived with people who are just like her. Good luck wherever you are!

We got worse roommates where that came from.
