The night was a warm, Spring night where the wind blew just enough to make you feel cool in the midst of the warmth. Ocean City was lively with activity and what better place to go? On this particular day, Lee and I after dating in college for the past 3 years became engaged and decided to live it up in Ocean City for the night.
Can you say DISASTER waiting to happen?
First, we get to the boardwalk and decide to have dinner at a restaurant called "Shennanigans." Following dinner, we decide to head down to the water and watch the moon shine over the lake. About midway through this, we get a call that my brother, in his drunken rage broke his hand by punching a brick wall repeatedly.
Our perfect evening ruined, we walk back to find our car parked at Fifth and Buchannan street. But, when we get there, we realize the car is gone. Maybe we had parked somewhere else. SO . . . we proceed to walk around Ocean City for the next 4 hrs. looking for our car.
After four hours, it is now midnight, we still have no luck and conclude the car was stolen, so we file a police report. Then, we call a "friend" whom I'll call Brad and explain the situation to him.
Brad's response is, "Dude, no there's no way I can come get you, do you know what frickin time it is?"
Well, we figure we'll just stay in a hotel for the night. BUT my wallet and Lee's purse was still in the car that was stolen. So we have nothing except the 5 dollars that was on us.
Our next step, is to catch the bus for $1 and get to a nearby Hardee's (Thankfully it was open 24/7), which we sit in until the morning comes.
The police call Lee's cell phone with an urgent message for us. The car wasn't stolen! It was towed because we parked it in front of a fire hydren and it would cost us $300 to get it back.
Well, after all was said and done, my brother's friends had taken him to the hospital and we had to borrow the money from my father to get the car back. As for Brad, I'm not a spiteful person, I simply stopped talking to him, despite his many apologies and his swearing he was drunk and that he wouldn't have done it if he was sober.
What a crock of bullsh**!
BUT, my brother was not so suttle. He was downright pissed off that Brad had just left Lee and me. So, he and some friends ran into Brad at a local bar one night (Drinking by his pathetic self as usual) and when he was totally trashed, he went out front and passed out in the lawn.
As my brother recalls it, what a perfect opportunity for revenge? He and his friends simply walked over to Bread and pissed all over him. He didn't even notice in his drunken state.
As for Lee and I we were married exactly 1 year after this day April 18, 2004 (Which lasted only 6 months I might add). Currently, we are divorced and have both remarried. Lee and I remained good friends however and when we talk laugh our asses off about that crazy engagement night.
As my parents always say, we live and learn! Still a good lesson and a good story.
