Sun God and the Girl

It was the hottest, sweatiest, sweetest night of lovemaking
So UCSD is REALLY boring, but then again, I'm not much of a party guy. With that said, let me explain the Sun God Festival. What it is all about has been explained to me many times over the past four years, yet I still can’t remember. What I do know about this event, is that it's an excuse for everyone to get hammered and, if you're into it, stoned, and then go to some concerts.

It was our last year at this God-forsaken school, so a few of my close friends convinced me to go to my first Sun God. The group consisted of my roommate Holly (I'm a guy btw, but we've known each other since the orientation before frosh year, so we were tight), her boyfriend Jeff, my other roommate Andrew, my old frosh roommates Russell and Charlie, Marla and myself. We decided to meet at our place for some pre-festival libations. I don't drink because it takes forever for me to get drunk, but I'm a lightweight when it comes to weed, so I saved some for later. Jeff didn't drink either, because he's a Jesus freak. He doesn't mind it when we drink, but he does have reservations about Holly drinking. So everyone but Jeff and me got pretty f'd up, and we headed for campus--concealed liquor and J's in hand.

Now a little background on Holly and Jeff's relationship--they had known each other for four years and had been dating the last two. Every single time she got wasted, she would something to piss Mr. High-&-Mighty off (in case you couldn't tell, I don't like Jeff much, though I put up with him because Holly is one of my closest friends). Usually, it's just her acting the way all drunk people act--carefree and stupid. Hey, we're in college, right? Anyway...

Fastforward to the concert

Russell and I (the only potheads in the group) smoked out just before we went into the concert. I didn't know who was playing nor did I care. I'm never into the bands the school provides. I think the headliner was Cake, but we showed up for Nocturnal, who wasn't too bad I guess. Of course, it could have been fucking N'Sync for all I knew since I was so high. We lost the guys in the crowd (they probably went off to see if they could get some), so Jeff, Holly, Marla and I tried to find a good spot to watch the concert.

Marla wasn’t really into the music either but was determined to have a good time, so she and I started dancing. Holly was dancing and trying to convince rigid Jeff to dance, but he'd been in a bad mood for a while and he hates being around drunk people, especially when drunk Holly is around drunk people.

Earlier she danced around the Hump in a drunken stupor and Jeff stopped her from flashing some friends of ours that we bumped into. She finally got fed up and said, "If you're gonna be a buzzkill, then fucking go home."

Pissed off and fed up, Jeff surprised us all, when he actually did go home--all the way to Bakersfield. He was planning on staying there for the weekend, to cool off. As was always the case when the two of them got into a fight, I did my best to console Holly. Marla stayed around awhile too and offered her support. I said that I would bring Holly home, who'd been drunkenly crying and ranting angrily about Jeff. Marla offered to find the other guys and tell them they needed to find another ride home (Jeff was their ride and I only had a two-seater).

So I took Holly home (by the way, I do NOT endorse driving high. It was the first time I did it and I was freaking out the whole time. Luckily, we live pretty close to the school). Holly kept complaining about Jeff all the way up to the door. I escorted her to her room and she wanted to party a bit more. So I smoked a little more, she drank a little more and we cranked up the stereo and danced. Tired, we eventually collapsed on the floor and ended up talking about her relationship. I've always told her that, although Jeff is a good guy, they just differ in so many ways. I reiterated this opinion for what seemed like the millionth time.

She agreed and said she had felt that their relationship had been going downhill for a while. We talked a little more. I forgot what I was saying when out of nowhere, she suddenly kissed me. I always had a small crush on Holly, but being such close friends, I never thought I would get anywhere, so I never tried.

I backed off and said, "Are you sure?"

She nodded and kissed me again. It was the hottest, sweatiest, sweetest night of lovemaking I've ever had.

She ended up dumping Jeff after that weekend and we're still together :) See? Your crushes can come true.

Editors Note:
Sun God sounds a little like Fallout. I guess every school has a wild-ass music festival.
