The Boxes and the Wads

They open their door in the morning and...surprise!
I am a freshman at ATU as of right now (Spring '05). I live in the ghetto dorm here on campus (Massie). This place is pretty dumpy, but the lenient RA's make up for it. We get away with all kinds of crap in here.

Anyway, it was probably just a month or two into the fall semester, and my roommate (Zaid) and I decided that things were too boring so we needed to start something.

We got the idea to go to this local appliance store and get 2 wahing machine boxes and bring 'em back to the dorm. Next, since some of the nicer dorms get free newspapers everyday, the leftover papers go in these recycling bins, which we got several newspapers out of and brought them back 2 the dorm. Now we had our supplies.

For roughly the next 4 hours, we wadded newspapers and filled the 2 boxes with 'em. The next part was trickier. Basically, we were planning to tape these two newspaper boxes together, to form one large box. Then, we would cut the front off of this large box, and Duct tape it to these other guys's door.

The result? They open their door in the morning and...surprise! They get an avalanche of paper wads and styrofoam pour into their room.

So around 2 a.m., Zaid and I put one box against the door and tape it first. Then we set the top box on the bottom box and cut off the bottom part of the top box. We slid it out, so as not to drop any wadded papers. The top box was off center, and the tape didn't hold good enough for all the weight in the boxes, and the both collapsed! Paper went everywhere and it was LOUD!

Zaid and I raced back into to our room and shut the door. We were sure someone had heard the commotion and woke up. One minute passed...two...three. We listened but there were no opening doors or hysterical laughter. We had gotten lucky.

So we looked out into the hallway, it was clear. We surveyed the damage of our box. It was fixable. We dared to continue with the prank. We taped the bottom box back on the doorway. We filled it, taped the next and filled it as well. It held this time. Completely filled, the newspaper came up over the top of the doorway. It was awesome.

However, this is only where the drama begins.

We retreat to our room for the night. The next morning, I was awakened by the sound of someone pounding on the door. I jumped out of bed, completely surprised to hear this. Zaid was gone, so I figured he was locked out. I had completely forgotten about what we'd done. What I saw when I opened the door scared the crap outta me. The RD was standing in a flood of paper wads that came halfway up his shins, and judging by the look on his face he was definitely PO'ed.

"He knows we did it!" I thought. "Oh, wrong room," he muttered. I shut the door and collapsed into a hysterically laughing heap. This was incredible!

We never "admitted" to doing it, at least not till months later. We don't know why we targeted them, simply just because I guess. We also found out later that the two guys occupying the room had been feuding.

To our most fortunate luck, one was not there on that particular night, so the guy who was there accused the other of doing it to him. The other guy swore that the guy who was in the room did it to himself...which would have been a near impossible task.

It was absolutely hilarious hearing them yelling out in the hallway about how one of them was gonna call the police. Things died down after a day or two, but I will never forget seeing that hallway flooded with wadded newspaper. Zaid and I have become pretty good friends with them, but they still don't know we did it.
