The Good Break of a Lifetime

After a short break in the spring semester of my sophomore year, I was driving with two of my friends on the 2-hour trip back to school. About 20 minutes into the trip, one of my buddies pulls out half of a 3 gram blunt to smoke.
No problem, right? We start smoking and enjoying ourselves, and eventually reached the main highway that would take us straight to school. Soon I was high and not going over 60 mph, when it started snowing. So there we were, cruising along, enjoying our high, watching the snow, when all of the sudden I was being pulled over by a cop.
It was then that I realized that we had not opened the windows and hadn’t smoked any cigarettes to block away the smell of the weed. Stupid, I know. At that point, I was extremely high and trying to keep my cool when the cop came up to my window. I’m sure he knew I was stoned. Immediately, he told me to get out of the car, and to lean against the trunk while he searched me thoroughly.
He said me that if I cooperated, he would “take it easy” on me. Ok, cool, until he handcuffed and threw me into the cop car. Then he did the same thing to my two buddies. Another state trooper came and they tossed my car. I mean they literally tossed it. They went through laundry I was bringing back up to school...they looked under the spare tire, everything. They found some medicine I used to take and thought I was dealing ecstasy.
They found a gram of weed in the compartment next to my seat. It was not looking good, and the whole time we were still pretty freakin high. The cop came back into the car and tells me he has me for DWAI (driving while ability impaired), possession of marijuana, and 3 felony charges for the 3 fake ids in my wallet –oops!
Then, something magical happened.
He looked at us and said that he didn’t feel like doing the paperwork; that he wanted to go home and see his family and that he was letting us go. He uncuffed us and told us to “be careful.”
Just as I was about to drive away, he knocked on the passenger window and handed my buddy the weed. I don’t think we spoke a word for the rest of the trip to school.
