This story is to remember my long lost friends, who died in a car accident on the day of their wedding...due to drunk driving. It was my senior year, and my two close friends Shandra and Matt where getting married.
They had been seeing each other for a while, and despite their young age, their marriage wasn’t a surprise to anybody who knew them. Everyone was very happy for them, and excited to go to the wedding...honestly, we were college kids, and there was free beer; what’s not to like!
The excitement was building and building up as the big day neared. We finally got to the night before the wedding, and the ... bachelor party! We partied hard, but got to sleep in reasonable condition -- knowing we had a wedding to go to and all.
In the morning, surprisingly, nobody was hungover, we were tired, but not hungover. Once everyone was up and ready to go, Shandra called Matt and said she was leaving, so Matt decided we should leave also. We took our own cars to the wedding, the limos were for the reception. On the way there we saw Shandra's car to our left. We took a right and she went straight, and we ended up right next to each other.
That’s when it happened. A car came flying from the opposite direction, smashing into Shandra's car, and then directly into Matt’s.
Shandra and Matt were killed together, on their way to their own wedding. This should have never happened, and would never have happened if the man in the other car wouldn’t have been drinking. I pray everyday for my friends, and for anybody who is a victim of drunk driving.
