Porky's

A few IMDb users remarked the following about Porky's: "High school hi-jinks at the most perverted and tasteless level"; "It's insipid, inane, and amateurish"; and "a raunchy comedy for anyone who found [Animal House] too sophisticated," for example. Those reviewers were criticizing the movie, but, ironically, they nailed its high points. Porky's is a significant chapter in the unwritten book on crude sex comedies.

The movie centers on a group of high-school boys who are living it up in 1950's Angel Beach, Florida. They play tricks on each other; Pee Wee Morris is the usual victim, because he's gullible and small (in more ways than one). When they boys aren't pulling pranks, they're trying to get laid or at least see some naked girls.

The underage boys trek to a redneck bar named . . . would anyone like to take a guess . . . Porky's, where they are almost guaranteed an adventure in fornication. Porky himself embarrasses the boys in front of the other customers. The sheriff, who is Porky's brother, shows up only to extort all of the boys' available cash. The hostility between the high schoolers and the hicks escalates into one of the most rewarding revenge scenes ever seen in a tasteless comedy.

The lack of plot and thorough character development are some of Porky's drawbacks, but rejection of this film on those shortcomings is like giving a research paper a failing grade because of a few typos. If you enjoyed films like American Pie and Van Wilder, you'll be laughing too hard to notice the lack of story and character development.

There are many sidesplitting scenes and quotes that will have you laughing for long periods of time. Before the guys go to Porky's, they go to a cabin to have sex with a stripper. As she inspects their equipment, she makes comments on the size, shape, etc. The stripper asks Pee Wee, "What do you use for a jockstrap, a peanut shell and a rubber band?" The rendezvous doesn't go as planned, and Pee Wee ends up running down the road bare-ass naked. My favorite scene involves another one of the guys, Tommy Turner, Tommy Jr., and the girls' appropriately named gym teacher, Ms. Balbricker. You'll have to see what happens for yourself.

Even though Porky's may be the least serious movie you'll ever see, it does recognize real issues. Ms. Balbricker mentions the limited space her students get, compared to the guys. One of the guys endures paternal abuse and takes out his anger on non-Caucasian individuals. If you like Porky's, the sequel is worth a look. Porky's II: The Next Day isn't as absurdly funny as the original, but it has more social commentary. Nothing makes my day like a movie that pokes fun at religious zealots.

Numerous bar scenes and hi-jinks call for serious drinking. That's your cue.

The overall raunchy content will probably impede your chances of showing your O-face to any females.
