Bust A Move
Cinema's Most Memorable Dance Scenes
Written by: Ryan McNally

For most college students, the drunken bump 'n' grind is their idea of dancing at its best. But with the video release of Billy Elliott this month, we figured we'd take a look at some movies that feature dancing at, shall we say, a slightly higher level. Here are Film Frat's selections for the Top 10 Most Memorable Dancing Scenes In Movies (in alphabetical order).
1. Billy Elliott
When his disapproving father catches him practicing ballet, Billy (Jaime Bell) releases all his pent-up emotions and launches into a stunning dance sequence that finally convinces his father of his passion for ballet (Click here for a full review).
2. Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo
Breakdancers Turbo and Ozone lead an awe-inspiring breakdancing performance to stop a businessman from bulldozing a local community center. A cult classic that's guaranteed to get you to bust into the robot and/or worm.
3. Dirty Dancing
Life at the country club isn't the same for pampered "Baby" (Jennifer Grey) when she meets a guy from the wrong side of the tracks (Patrick Swayze). Before long, the two are getting down and dirty with some sexy dance moves.
4. Do The Right Thing
Newcomer Rosie Perez sets the tone for this controversial film by showing off some herky-jerky moves over the movie's opening credits and the pulsing beats of Public Enemy's "Fight The Power."
5. Flashdance
What a feeling, indeed. Jennifer Beals stars as a Pittsburgh welder/exotic dancer striving to get into ballet school … and she dances like she's never danced before.
6. Footloose
Kevin Bacon shows off some fancy footwork when he takes on a conservative town (led by John Lithgow) that's bent on outlawing teenagers from dancing.
7. Saturday Night Fever
Brooklyn youth Tony Manero (John Travolta, who also scored two notable Honorable Mention selections on our list) feels his only chance to get somewhere is as king of the disco floor.
8. Scent Of A Woman
Much to onlooker Chris O'Donnell's amazement, Al Pacino shows his zest for life by dancing an unforgettable tango with an attractive young woman.
9. Singin' In The Rain
Gene Kelley pulls out the umbrella and shows off some fancy footwork in this dancing classic for the ages.
10. Swingers
Mikey (Jon Favreau) finally gets to be the big winner when he uses some impressive swing moves to help score the lovely Lorraine, played by Heather Graham (Click here for a full review).

Honorable Mention

The Godfather III (a brief-but-devastating flashback at film's end shows Michael Corleone dancing with the three women he loved -- and eventually lost); When Harry Met Sally (as Harry and Sally enjoy a slow dance on New Year's Eve, the realization that they love one another finally dawns on them); The Full Monty (while waiting in line at the post office, the male-strippers-to-be bust a move); Pulp Fiction (Travolta returns to glory with a contest-winning dance with Uma Thurman); Grease (Travolta and Newton-John dance many a memorable jig); and True Lies (Schwartzanegger shows off some surprising moves during a nimble tango with hottie Tia Carrere).
